Hey, I’ll pray for you!

The other day I was sitting back and watching as people posted to twitter.  I was struck by how many people had prayer requests.  Maybe I was noticing it more since reading this post on our blog the other day.  I had prayed for each person that commented on that post and for the people that tweeted their prayer requests, but on that night it seemed like there was a lot of pain.  I know there’s ALWAYS pain in the world and that’s nothing new – but on this night it just kind of…hit me.

Tweets were flowing….A family just lost a child to cancer – Someone was injured while traveling – A parent had been diagnosed with cancer – A father passed away – A son was in the hospital and in critical condition – A man looking for a job and getting desperate – A woman who just discovered her husband was cheating…..I closed my laptop and just prayed.

Prayer is something we take for granted.  Prayer has become a habit – something we “just do”. We pray before we eat. We pray with our kids at bedtime each night. Each of these are great things to do – but is that the only times we pray?  The power of prayer is something completely lost on many people – many Christians.  The Bible is pretty clear that prayer works – God answers prayers – when we pray.
James 5:14-16
Mark 11:24
Psalm 107:28-30
There are plenty more….

We drop prayer into conversations and rarely follow through – “Hey, I’ll pray for you!” as we walk away.  That’s why when we post on this blog – or tweet out asking if we can pray for people…it’s silent.  Very few people will take you up on that offer because 1) they don’t believe you will actually do it 2) they are too embarrassed to admit that they actually need prayer.

I need prayer.  I need TO pray.  It’s my lifeline to the Father.  I don’t have to talk to a priest to get the message to God – I dont’ have to sacrifice an animal – I dont’ have to go to a temple – I just have to stop and take the time.

So, how can I pray for you?  How can we pray for you?  This is not just some hollow request for a blog post – this is sincere.

you don’t HAVE to sacrifice an animal, but it doesn’t hurt.

Seriously. Just pray for clarity, resolution, and faithfulness for me.

    Love you man.
